When the Floodwaters Rose, They Said ‘I Do’ Anyway

We were proud to dress Scott and his groomsmen for Louise and Scott Ferrier’s remarkable wedding on the Liverpool Plains. Despite October floodwaters threatening to wash away the entire day, this couple refused to budge — and the result was one of the most memorable weddings we’ve been a part of. Louise and Scott Ferrier were married last October on Louise’s family farm on the Liverpool Plains, New South Wales — a property that has been in the family for more than 150 years. The week started with sunshine, luring everyone into a false sense of security. It wouldn’t last.
With 60 millimetres of rain falling on Thursday night and floodwaters surging from Coolah Tops, creeks burst their banks and the nearby towns of Gunnedah, Quirindi, Narrabri and Moree were cut off. For most couples, that would have meant one phone call to cancel. For Lou and Scotty, it meant rallying.

Despite the chaos, 130 guests made their way to the farm — some taking double the time as they were rerouted around floodwater. For those who couldn’t get through, the couple set up a Zoom link so they could watch the ceremony live.
The Suits — Groom & Groomsmen by Suit Society
Scott and his groomsmen wore custom suits by Suit Society for the celebration. Against the sweeping backdrop of the flooded Liverpool Plains, the look was grounded and considered — perfectly suited to the rugged, rural spirit of the day.
The bridesmaids styled themselves beautifully. In Louise’s own words: “I gave the girls a colour and material type and let them choose a dress that would suit them. They absolutely nailed it — we had pink, green, yellow, blue and beige. Such a beautiful palette.”
A True Community Effort
With no caterer or bar staff able to get through, the couple scrambled at the 11th hour. When celebrant Rianna Winter was caught in her own flood crisis, friends Cate Cadell and Lauren Weston stepped in to deliver the ceremony using Rianna’s own script. Rianna arrived the following day to make it official.
